Crazy characters, situations and real life celebrity guests collide in what must be the cheapest but greatest light entertainment show the UK has ever seen!! Our hosts, Ben & Jon, do their best to hold the 'magazine' type show together, more often than not only adding further comedy fuel to the chaos fire.
Regular guest characters, Australian snake man 'Mick Serle', Doctors 'Magnus Butcher' & 'Melvyn Sayer' and dare devils extrodinaires 'Captain Xtreme & Private Panic' come on and demonstrate one thing or another with often anarchic results and hilarious results! Sketches and spoof adverts featuring wacky chaps such as 'Charles London - City Man', 'Bob & Jeff Bettermeat' and their 'Pork Selection' range of pork clothes and gadgets also contribute to the madness.
But it is the 'Fan' itself which is one of the most important factors of the show. You can be assured either ripe fruit or a cake - visual representations of things Ben & Jon aren't happy about - will be thrown 'upthefan' at some point. In the past, a young good for nothing thug was himself thrown 'upthefan' in the TV episode 'The Bouncing Bomb!'. In a recent live show, failed sit-com star BradMurray's whole career (represented by a selection of cakes) became the victim of the fan!
Like a cheap version of 'Morecambe & Wise', 'upthefan' has played host to several celebrity guest appearances. Past guests have included Jane Asher, Rod Hull & Emu, Antonio 'Huggy Bear' Fargas, Cheryl Baker, Nicholas Parsons, Brian Cowley, Jimmy Cricket and Bernie Clifton!
